Typhoon Safety & Defense Guide

1. Stay Informed on Weather Alerts

• Closely monitor official typhoon alerts and updates issued by meteorological departments to stay informed on the storm’s path and intensity. 
  
  

2. Secure Your Home & Prepare Indoors

• Move loose outdoor items like potted plants and hanging clothes inside to prevent falling hazards. 

• Keep doors and windows tightly shut, and stay away from windward windows and doors. 

• Stock up on essential supplies, including food, drinking water, and necessary medications. 

• In case of indoor flooding, shut off power immediately to avoid electric shocks. 
  
  

3. Stay Indoors & Limit Travel

• Minimize outdoor activities and seek shelter in a secure building as early as possible. Stay far away from leaning power poles or downed power lines to prevent electrocution. If driving, avoid flooded underpasses and low-lying areas.

• If you must go outside, stay clear of construction sites and dilapidated structures, and do not take shelter or stand under trees.
  

4. Mitigate Safety Hazards

• Immediately suspend all outdoor large gatherings, events, and construction projects. 

• Authorities and managing entities must reinforce high-rise structures, outdoor billboards, tower cranes, and other equipment against strong winds.

• Hazardous chemical enterprises must ensure clear drainage systems, secure all dangerous materials, and strictly implement risk prevention measures. 
  
  

5. Ships Must Return to Port Promptly

• Vessels operating in affected waters or passing through should return to port immediately or seek shelter in the nearest safe harbour. Reinforce port facilities to prevent ships from dragging anchor, running aground, or colliding.
  
  

6. Evacuate to Safe Areas Immediately

• Residents living in dilapidated houses, temporary structures, corrugated iron sheds, construction huts, or low-lying areas must follow government instructions and relocate to safe zones or designated emergency shelters promptly. 
  
  

7. Keep Away from Danger Zones

• Avoid traveling to areas that may be affected by the typhoon. Anyone currently in potential hazard zones should leave immediately. 

• In the days following a typhoon, mountain roads are prone to landslides and hazards. Avoid traveling to mountainous regions, coastal areas, riverbanks, and reservoirs. 
   

8. Stay Alert During the "Eye of the Storm"

• A sudden calm in wind and waves shortly after a severe typhoon may indicate that the eye of the storm is passing over. Severe winds and torrential rain can strike again within moments. Remain in a safe place and continue to track official weather updates.
